Hi, my name is Drew Stiling. I'm originally from Chicago, I have a bachelor's and master's in economics, I'm fluent in Spanish, and I've had the great fortune of working as a tutor and test-prep instructor for ten years. I love helping all ages students with a variety of abilities reach their full potential. I'm very responsive to phone calls and e-mails, and I love keeping parents informed and involved. In my free time, I enjoy reading and playing tennis.
Hi! I'm Arthur N., English teacher, music producer, poet, and Jiu Jitsu practitioner. I am a graduate of the NYU Teaching & Learning Program, and have worked in numerous elementary, middle, and high schools in the New York Metropolitan area. I believe in learning through exploration, letting a student's own passions fuel their drive to learn. When you know what you are working toward, nothing can stop you!
I have been teaching and tutoring students and adult professionals in Chicago Schools, German Cultural Centers and other similar institutions for years. Some of my freelance work encompasses proofreading, editing, interpreting and tour guiding. I am looking forward to helping you gain, enhance and excel in your foreign language competence. In my freetime, I like to race sailboats, ski, and be outdoors and active.
Hello! I'm an easy-going guy who loves math and science, and I think every student can too. Through tutoring, I find that I can build a connection with a student that they rarely get from their teachers in a classroom setting. That's a skill that I learned through my diverse experiences. As well as being a private tutor, I've served as a teaching assistant to tenured professors at Cornell University, my alma mater, as well as a tutor/mentor to boys in the MacCormick Secure Center in upstate New York. I love teaching, and I look forward to working with you!
I've been teaching and tutoring students in Latin, Greek, and other subjects (both Classical and not) since graduating college in 2004. I've made it my life's work to share my love and enthusiasm for the ancient world with learners of all ages, even if not everything done by the Romans and Greeks is worthy of a re-enactment. When I'm not pretending I'm Augustus or Demosthenes (a rare occasion), I spend much of my free time watching independent films, being terrible at pick-up soccer, and collecting everything ever recorded by Bob Dylan.
I love teaching. I am passionate about helping students achieve their goals, and have had great success in my years as a teacher and tutor. I have wide-ranged expertise and a teaching style that puts students at ease to explore their strengths and weaknesses. From general study skills to SAT and AP English test preparation, I am confident that I can help students find their own path to success.
Over the years, many students have come to me with the belief that they’ll never “get it” because they’re not a “science (or math) person.” I believe that any student can make a connection with the topics and do well in science and math. Science and math are everywhere and part of literally everything you do - I take it as a personal challenge to show students that with a little reflection, perseverance, and humor, they can better understand the world around them - and better yet, achieve any academic goal.
I am a history nerd with a passion for teaching and helping students. I have taught a range of grades in grades 7-12 at a private school in NYC for the past seven years. I am clear and concise in my instruction and take pride in helping students understand difficult content. Both students and parents have told me that I am good at breaking down skills--such as test preparation or paragraph and essay writing--into manageable pieces. My other passion in life is yoga--I both practice and teach yoga in NYC.
Hello! I am an English teacher based out of New York City and I love cinema, sushi, and bike riding. I grew up in sunny San Diego, CA, but decided to trade in my surf board for books when I attended Columbia University for my Bachelors degree in Anthropology. After graduating, I taught ESL in China and found my calling in the field of education. I've taught students of all ages in all sorts of different subjects, from creative writing to environmental science, from college admission essays to standardized test preparation. I find helping a student transition from struggling to learning how to independently approach a challenging obstacle, whether it be an essay or math problem, to be the most rewarding aspect of education. I look forward to collaborating and helping you achieve your goals.
I began my tutoring career when I was still in high school—I worked with local middle school students in Chicago—and I have not stopped teaching since. I have taught creative writing in a variety of settings—at Common Ground, a facility for the recently homeless, at the Kelly Writers House in Philadelphia, and at Columbia University, where I received an MFA in 2015. I tutor a variety of academic subjects and standardized tests, which keeps my logical and analytical skills sharp while I read fiction, write a novel, and wade through the history of film and music in my spare time.
Hello! My Name is Danielle Provenzano. My passion is teaching and I truly enjoy helping all students learn and have the confidence they need to tackle any subject or test! I have been teaching in a New York City elementary school for 7 years. I have successfully helped students with preparation in all subject areas including: writing, math, english, and grammar. I look forward to working with you!
I have over 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience in math and physics. With a background in in engineering and having worked in the engineering and construction fields, I can show students how to apply the math and physics and satisfy every student's curiosity of "why do we need to learn this?"
A budding scientist at age 12, I always knew I wanted to study and learn. In high school, I was a science tutor for elementary school students. Now, I'm a university professor who runs a biological research lab. I enjoy teaching one-on-one and together we can use online technology to achieve academic success!
I love to help my students approach challenges from a new angle. Sometimes, when it feels like you're facing something insurmountable, what you really need is just a different way of thinking. I believe in sticking to the task but having fun along the way . . . and ending every session with a few minutes of exploring the student's natural interests. Curiosity is a marvelous thing.
I am inspired to share the fruits of the outstanding education I received with others. I attended highly competitive secondary and tertiary institutions, and have supplemented this education with self-directed study in a broad range of topics over the course of my life. I have worked in education for almost 20 years as a tutor, teacher, and administrator. I enjoy the outdoors, cooking, and time spent with the people I care about.
In the last 18 years I've tutored hundreds of math and German students and standardized test takers at all levels (High School/AP/College) and in various systems (American: ISEE/SSHAT/SAT/AP; European:IB/O and A Levels/Abitur/BAC). I offer tutoring and exam preparation in all areas of math and German. I always emphasize exam preparation with students and have dozens of success stories as a result of this strategy. I received my "Licénce de Math" (BA in mathematics) from the 7th branch of the Sorbonne (Jussieu, Paris 7) with a "mention bien" (only about 7 out of 500 graduates receive a "mention bien").
I'm a neuroscientist by training and have been teaching and tutoring for over seven years. I've found tutoring to be a unique opportunity to help students meet their academic goals. Every student is a little different, and I've enjoyed helping a wide range of students find ways to improve both their classroom performance and standardized test scores.
Quotation marks, commas, and even semicolons aren't as intimidating as they may seem! Whether you're doing homework, studying for an exam, or typing a paper, I can help you make sense of every grammatical rule standing in your way. I've worked with students of all ages (even adults), so I can show you how to streamline your work and express yourself more clearly than ever before.
After receiving my Ph.D. in Biology from Columbia University, I was trained as a research scientist, but I discovered early on that I prefer teaching to research. I really enjoy working through problems together with my students, and no question is ever too small to discuss. I am very lucky to be teaching at Stuyvesant High School. The students are so inquisitive and so eager. They always keep me on my toes. In tutoring, I am patient and understanding, and I work hard to make the material fun and engaging.
I’m a tutor who loves math and loves to help students better understand how it works. I know not everyone feels the same way I do about math, so I will be very patient and do my best to make it fun. In my spare time I also love theater and keeping up with current events.
Simply put, I am passionate about transformational learning. I tutoring as a reciprocal partnership, and that enables the student to reach his or her full potential. As an educational advocate and professional college counselor, I've worked with both foreign and domestic students in the college application and college essay writing process. I'm also an executive functioning specialist, and I'm currently authoring the book "Harvard Habits" so a wider audience may learn how to channel their inner "A" student.
I started my teaching career eleven years ago by teaching AP US History, AP World History, and SAT prep abroad, and haven't stopped teaching since! As a former NYC math teacher, I am 100% comfortable teaching both the verbal and math portions of any standardized tests, and aligning instruction to the common core standards. I like to tailor instruction to each learner and focus on cognitive flexibility rather than memorization. I am also a strong believer in structured learning.
I am here to help you with all your Latin & Greek needs! I have taught anyone and everyone, from 6th grade Texans to Cambridge University undergraduates, and would love to help you.
In addition to subject-based tutoring, I have taken UCLA-accredited courses in Executive Functioning which enable me to promote skills in organization, time management, self-advocacy, and test preparation. I have tutored for the past seven years and have worked with students from 5th grade through college. I have experience working with students in highly competitive private schools, as well as with students with learning and behavioral challenges.
Hello. I’m originally from Maryland. I graduated from high school as a National Honors student in 3 years. After graduation, I attended Boston University with an academic scholarship and majored in history. Completing the program again in only 3 years, I graduated cum laude with a Bachelors in History. I love teaching English, reading, writing, literature, and language, as well as all courses in history!
I'm a coffee-drinking, food-loving writer and ex-Stanford professor who believes that everyone can learn to write.
Hi! I am currently working as an adjunct assistant professor in NYC, and my favorite part of teaching is seeing my students experience that "lightbulb" moment of understanding. I believe that, especially in physics and mathematics, once a concept is clearly understood, it can then be applied easily to solve problems. Thus, I try to help my students build a solid conceptual base before teaching problem-solving strategies, though I feel that both are equally important. Students often tell me that they leave my classroom and tutoring sessions feeling less intimidated by the material and more confident in their understanding and ability to: (1) explain concepts to their peers, and (2) apply these concepts to easily solve homework and exam problems.
I have always loved to learn and have equally enjoyed helping others learn. I’m an expert in all sections of the SAT and ACT. Over the past seven years, I’ve helped hundreds of students do their best on these important tests. I truly believe that learning promotes confidence, and I work hard to build encouraging relationships with my students.
Hi! I'm a Ph.D. candidate in the English Dept. at UC Berkeley, where I study Victorian novels. I've lived in Boston, Paris, and the Bay Area, but am thrilled to be back home in Brooklyn, where I tutor grades 5-12 and beyond. I have five years of experience teaching writing and literature at the college level and four years of experience tutoring test prep and academic subjects. In my spare time, I'm...I have no spare time, really. I write, and I read, and I write some more. But sometimes I cook.
Hi! I'm Maggie. My professional, academic, and personal life have been dedicated to the pursuit of learning and having fun. I believe that science allows for just that; it's interesting and makes the world around us make sense! My experience provides me with not only the necessary background knowledge to excite and engage students, but the ability to tailor content to a student's individual needs.
I am patient and compassionate, and approach tutoring by creating a solid relationship and maintaining a fun environment to help students reach their goals.
Hi there! I’m a writer and educator based in New York City and Fairfield County, CT. Also worth noting is that I’m a Viking, and after working with me you’ll be able to say that you’ve met someone from Iceland! (Yes, Mighty Ducks fans, it’s true—“Iceland is really green, and Greenland is really ice.”) I graduated summa cum laude from Barnard College, the women’s affiliate of Columbia University, with a degree in Philosophy, and returned the next year to complete my Masters degree in Higher Education. Last fall, I received a fellowship to Columbia’s MFA program in Creative Writing, where I co-curate a weekly workshop series and teach a literature seminar in the high school summer program. I’ve also taught creative writing summer courses at Lehigh University and Haverford College. During the school year I tutor middle- and high-school students in essay writing, critical thinking skills, literary analysis, college admissions, and standardized test prep.
Hi! I’m an experienced teacher and tutor who loves working one-on-one with students to achieve their goals. I’ll help you crack standardized tests, better understand your subject material, and improve the quality of your writing. I teach with patience and compassion and try to make sessions fun!
I love tutoring for the opportunity it offers to help students gain confidence in their academic abilities, as well as concrete knowledge. My specialties (and rival passions, as well as college majors) are Psychology and Spanish, though I've definitely come to love the strategy of test prep. My undergraduate degree is from Johns Hopkins, and recently my pursuit of a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology has brought me to NYC.
Hi there! My goal as a tutor is to take the stress out of learning. I'll help you find the best path forward in your studies, and hopefully have some fun along the way. I've always been interested in a variety of subjects, and my education and work history reflect it. I studied English lit and Chinese language as an undergrad at Washington and Lee University, and more recently was enrolled in premed science courses at Harvard Extension School. I've taught ESL in China, as well as test prep in Boston, MA. Whatever you find yourself struggling with, I look forward to sitting down and helping you plot a course to better grades and peace of mind.
Hi! When I got my first tutoring job, I knew it would be rewarding to make students "unhate" math. But I didn't realize how much fun it could be or how rewarding it is to hear "I get it now!" I also didn't realize how exciting it would be to be able to contribute to the field during the internet's massive impact on education. I've cured hundreds of students, both online and in-person, of their math anxiety. After years of developing a knack for simplifying concepts, I've since developed a math video series for the SAT, ACT, and the NYS Regents.
I draw from my experience as a faculty member at colleges and universities in the U.S. and Mexico to help students further their musical and linguistic abilities. In my years as a teacher and tutor, I’ve helped countless students not only improve their grades, but gain the confidence they need to help them succeed in school and in life.
Hi there! I am experienced educator who loves working with students of all ages to help maximize their potential and surpass their goals. Together, we build learning strategies for reading, writing, and literacy in a myriad of subject areas. I believe in building positive growth relationships that allow for humor and fun within the sessions, thus fostering a sense of trust between the student and myself. No task is too little or too big for us to learn and overcome when working together! Every student brings unique abilities to the table, and I utilize them to help foster academic excellence.
Hello there! I have tutored students of all ages in writing and English since receiving my BA in Interdisciplinary Honors from CUNY Hunter College in 2011, and have taught ESL online to students in China for the last year. I have worked in editing, as a freelance writer, and I currently attend the University of New Orleans’ Low Residency Poetry MFA. As a published creative writer and experienced editor, I strive to tap into my students’ imaginations so they can write more creatively and freely, without compromising technical ability. When I'm not writing poems or tutoring, I'm watching hockey, playing guitar, or making collages.
I'm a literature and composition college instructor who loves good food and bad movies. I received my BA and MA in English from the University of Pennsylvania and an MFA from Rutgers University. I look forward to working with you!
Hello! My goal as a tutor has always been to make students' work as engaging and fun as possible. This seems like a stretch sometimes, but the truth is that we all have to do things we don't like, that we don't feel we're great at, and we just have to find a way to get through it. I'm flexible and always willing to try new things... I was never driven by grades as a student and I'm not driven by grades as a tutor. I want students to get the most out of their academic life as possible in order to enrich other aspects of their personal life. I specialize in humanities and foreign language (Spanish and French) subjects, and I've also taken UCLA-accredited courses in Executive Functioning, enabling me to work on developing organization and time management skills.
Hi Everyone! After getting an MBA from The University of Rochester in 2007, I worked on Wall Street for a period of three years in trading and investment research. Since that time, I have made a career shift into education, and I now have six years’ experience tutoring in New York City and Hawaii. I enjoy teaching a variety of subjects, mostly math-related, and helping students through the rigorous process of maximizing their standardized test performance. In high school, I was passionate about theater and the arts, and I initially went to college with the goal of having a career in musical or theatrical performance. Currently, in addition to my teaching, I enjoy travel, sports, and pushing my physical fitness limits. In working with a student, it is my goal to build rapport, assess strengths and weaknesses, to customize a program that meets individual needs and aims, and to achieve positive outcomes.
Hello! As a kid, math and I had a love/hate relationship until 6th grade, when I met the teacher who inspired me to find the fun in math and I have never looked back. I strive to be that teacher for all of my students, and to show them that math doesn't have to be so scary! When I'm not trying to convince students that decimals have a point or natural numbers are better for your health, you might find me running a marathon or reading a good book (hopefully not at the same time!). I look forward to working with you!
Hi! I have been a teacher at a New York City private school for four years, and I enjoy teaching a variety of sciences, including Earth Science and Biochemistry. In high school, I was passionate about literature and science, and went to college with a National Merit Scholarship for my performance on the PSAT and SAT. It is my goal to assess each student’s strengths and weaknesses and structure a tutoring program that addresses his or her specific learning style. My individualized approach fosters excitement while helping my students to achieve their aims.
Hi there! My name is Sarah and I'm an experienced elementary, middle and high school tutor who patiently and encouragingly, yet firmly helps students realize their intellectual strengths and interests. I have a B.A. from Wesleyan University in Religion and Psychology, and have been actively tutoring since graduating in 2011. My experience ranges from tutoring kindergarteners how to read to tutoring students in college-level Psychology courses. I've been a fan of learning about and teaching biology and science for over a decade! I started my career as a high school biology teacher (at my high school alma mater!), and continue to enjoy finding ways to help every student understand and get excited about the science of living things - whether it's grasping an abstract concept, tackling tricky terminology, figuring out the whats and whys in a set of experimental data, or building up content knowledge and confidence for the AP or SAT Subject Test in biology. Additionally, I aim to help students see that the elegance, accessibility, and FUN that's inherent to the process of scientific inquiry, and to help build their confidence and scientific investigators and communicators.
Salve! Since I can remember, I’ve always been interested in languages and history, but it wasn’t until I went to Rome as a teenager that I really fell in love with Latin. Aside from being a classics nerd, I enjoy traveling, writing screenplays, cooking good food, watching bad TV, and chasing my two little boys around the playground.
I have been teaching Spanish for 8 years and ESL for 2 years. I have a Bachelor's degree in Spanish and English, a Master's degree from Spain in Applied Linguistics to the Teaching of Spanish as a Second Language, and a North Carolina Professional Teaching License for Spanish K-12 and ESL K-12.
I offer all levels of tutoring lessons for middle, high school, and university students. I have successfully helped students with grammar, homework, AP exam preparation, conversation, specific travel, or business vocabulary--all based on individuals' needs. All of my students have seen grade improvements within their first month of tutoring!
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you build confidence and achieve success in Spanish!
When I'm not working as an ACT and SAT instructor, I teach philosophy and ethics at the college level and enjoy researching and writing. Some of my other hobbies include surfing, skiing, volleyball and frisbee golf. Other than that, I like watching other people learn and try to do my part to improve their lives.
